Film Tanks & Reels

Many of today's film tanks & reels are becoming more plastic than metal which is a choice you will have to make. Film tanks & reels are cylinders that hold rolls of film so they can be developed. For the longest time these tanks were made of stainless steel and very durable. With everything going to plastic though you can now purchase plastic film tanks & reels if you want. The stainless steel tanks are more durable and if they fall or get dropped they are real hard to break. Plastic is plastic and sometimes after use and time will break. It's just the nature of plastic. Another issue with plastic is the durability issue. Since you are using chemicals inside the tank how long will the plastic remain hard before it starts to break down. These are some things to consider when purchasing film tanks & reels. These film processing tanks are usually thin and stand upright and have been around a long time for processing film. Most peoples still use these tanks today. Over the years the technology has really improved and the construction of these tanks have changed a little over the years.

More Information

Film reels are put inside these tanks as you can't have light hit the film or it will ruin it. The biggest advantage of tanks are they are sealed up so for the most part you can also protect the person using these film tanks. Years ago that was always an issue since you will be using chemicals inside was the safety factor. Today's film tanks & reels are made extremely well and having a failure with one of the tanks is very well nowadays which is a good thing. In the future film tanks & reels will probably even go more to the plastic side of things as it's alot cheaper to produce and cost in the film industry is a big part of it. Plastic is usually lighter and easier to move around so look for most tanks to go that way. All the advantages of plastic make it hard to discount so I see plastic as the wave of the future for film tanks and reels.
